Learning How to Do Self Hypnosis Most people describe a self-hypnotic mind state as feeling very mentally aware and focused and yet very physically relaxed at the same time. It is characterized by vivid imagination, mental clarity, heightened perception and senses, and an absence of concepts such as time or analysis or judgment.. With practice you will easily be able to identify when you are crossing the threshold from everyday conscious thinking to your hypnotic mind state. Each individual finds they have their own easily identifiable benchmarks, just as each individual recognizes certain characteristics about the threshold where they step into other mindstates such as a daydream state, a sleep state etc. The key to successful self-hypnosis is consistent practice combined with sincere intention.. Practice means earnest, daily self-hypnosis sessions even if each session is as little as 20 minutes a day. Any time of the day is fine, however the same time of day everyday is most advantageous, particularly if it is first thing in the morning before getting out of bed, and/or last thing at night before falling asleep, when you are naturally in a semi-lucid suggestible mind state. Self-Hypnosis is a method of training yourself to simultaneously become very relaxed and very aware, which spontaneously produces a mind-state that is imaginative and unjudgemental and so it is very open and suggestible, allowing all-possiblity thinking and learning in a way that the rigorous conscious logical mind cannot. Self-Hypnosis will work even if you do not believe it will. In fact you have experienced it countless times, and it has been instrumental in forming some of your basic beliefs, self-concepts, and outlook on life generally. For example, you naturally slip into a self-hypnosis mindstate (vivid imagining, physical relaxation, unaware of time) simply by sitting comfortably in your livingroom focused intently on a television program. You have only to notice the strategies of the commercial messages to clue in to the fact that advertisers are well aware of the hypnotic heightened-suggestiblilty mindstate that television induces. So, if you are agreeing to be self-hypnotized now anyway, how much better would it be to learn how to 'steer' your mind yourself, rather than have self-hypnosis savvy TV programmers operating it, taking your psyche where you and your life may not really have intended to go. Self-Hypnosis is deceptively natural, and even though you have experienced it countless times, you may not have realized its inherent power or the ease with which you can put it to service for you. Learning Self-Hypnosis gives you better skills to direct your thoughts yourself and take your life where you want it to go... not where marketing people, movie makers or commercial advertisers want it to go. You may have hesitated to look into self hypnosis before now because you were put off by hypnosis showmanship stage antics you have seen. The truth is that you will not go into a trance and lose your self-control anymore than you lose it watching television, nor will you do anything in a self-hypnotic state that you do not subconsciously or consciously agree is in your best interest. (Of course, what some people would agree to, particularly if their subconscious mind is unabashedly enjoying their 15 minutes of fame, can be surprising).
